Interface
Learn how the main window, panels, menus, and conversion controls fit together.
The TransType window has four main working areas.
Toolbar
The toolbar provides:
- Icon View and List View.
- Preview panel, Font Info panel, and Glyph Map visibility.
- Output profile selection.
- Destination and subfolder selection.
- The conversion command.
The destination menu also contains Install Fonts, which applies after a
successful OpenType export.
Main Area (Font list)
The main area shows target fonts, not the untouched source files. Use:
- Icon View for visual family and styling-group organization.
- List View for a compact overview.
- View > Sort by Style or Sort by Styling Group to change the order.
- The filter field to narrow a large conversion list.
Selection controls most commands. Effects, naming operations, conversion, and
font information act on the selected targets. Click an empty area to clear the
selection.
Font Info panel
The collapsible sections are:
- Names
- Dimensions
- Credits and Licensing
- Source
The panel can edit one value across several selected targets. A dash or mixed
state means that the selected targets do not share the same value.
Preview panel and Glyph Map
The Preview panel displays editable sample text in the selected targets. The
Glyph Map is a separate window for browsing the glyph repertoire of the
current target.
Use Window > Show Preview Panel, Show Font Info Panel, or Show Glyph Map Window to restore a hidden area.
Status area
The bottom of the window reports selection and conversion status. After a
successful conversion, Reveal results opens the output folder. An
unregistered build also shows its remaining free-export status and an
Activate control.
Light and dark appearance
TransType 5 adapts its panels, icons, and effect dialogs to the active light or
dark system setting. The current Preferences dialog does not provide a
separate TransType theme switch.
